More than an archive, Schall Collection is a long-term commitment to the preservation, study and dissemination of Roger Schall’s work. By bringing together research, curatorial projects and cultural partnerships, the estate seeks to reveal the full historical and artistic significance of a photographic legacy that continues to resonate today.

Origins
Schall Collection was born from the rediscovery of an extraordinary archive. Following Roger Schall’s death in 1995, more than 80,000 negatives, thousands of contact sheets and decades of publications remained preserved within the family. In 2004, his granddaughter Cécile Schall began the first comprehensive effort to inventory, catalogue and study the collection. Building on nearly two decades of research and stewardship, she founded Schall Collection in 2023 alongside her son Lucas d’Aram, establishing the official estate dedicated to preserving and sharing Roger Schall’s legacy.
Mission
The Estate aims to bring Roger Schall’s work into the present. Through exhibitions, publications, fine art prints and collaborations with museums, publishers and cultural institutions, Schall Collection fosters new encounters and encourages fresh perspectives. By connecting the collection with contemporary audiences, the Estate ensures that this body of work remains a living part of today’s cultural landscape.
Vision
Roger Schall witnessed and photographed many of the defining transformations of the twentieth century. Yet his contribution to the history of photography remains largely undiscovered. Schall Collection’s ambition is to foster a deeper recognition of his work through research, exhibitions and international collaborations, ensuring that his unique perspective on modernity, society and everyday life continues to inform contemporary conversations around photography and art culture.
