From Leica to Rolleiflex(20)

The Leica marked the beginning of Roger Schall's photographic journey. Acquired in 1929, its compact 24 × 36 mm format gave him the freedom to wander the streets of Paris, guided only by his curiosity and fascination for the city. Long before assignments and illustrated magazines, these photographs were driven solely by his own eye, capturing the poetry of everyday Parisian life. This Leica series remains the purest expression of Roger Schall's personal vision. Only later did the 6 × 6 cm Rolleiflex accompany the demands of his professional career and the illustrated press.
